School District Performance
State of the Schools

Annually each fall, the district provides a State of the Schools presentation to highlight achievement from the previous school year in the following four areas:
- ESEA Performance
- District Assessment Results in LA & Math
- Standardized Testing Results from NJSLA and CogATs
- Data Review Process & Analysis
Results are utilized to determine focus areas for the current school year and in determining district, school and individual teacher goal areas. In addition, professional development and curriculum writing, planning and implementation are targeted in identified areas.
Click here to view the State of the Schools presentation from 2024-2025, presented to the board and public on September 25, 2025. Focus areas for all content/related arts areas are as follows, these are further defined for staff in the areas of literacy, math, science, and social studies at department/grade level meetings:
- Implement classroom differentiation strategies and support to meet specific student needs based on a variety of assessment data.
- Emphasize purpose and intent in the planning stages to increase focus on learning across lessons.
- Reduce scaffolding, where appropriate, so that teaching can be responsive to what students are demonstrating independently.
- Enhance SEL competencies with a focus on empathy & self-regulation.
- Intentionally select technology tools that authentically support learning, including meaningful test prep integration, where appropriate.
In addition, annual performance report are released in the spring and provide additional graphs connected to state assessments, as well as a variety of other data measurements. See below for summary information from the latest performance reports.
ETSD BOE approved an ELA Audit that was conducted through the 2026 winter/spring months. The district received a rating of 3.74 out of 4. The following links contain the findings presented to the board and public on June 16, 2026: Board Highlights (Expanded Version). A copy of the audit report is posted here, as well as assessment indications.

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) released in May of 2026 NJ School Performance Reports. These are annual reports that the state developed to provide the public with various data including school-level demographics, state assessment scores, information about staff working in a school, and more for the 2024-2025 school year. The performance reports provide a brief overview of various areas such as: enrollment, participation & performance, student growth, attendance, student discipline, course participation, technology readiness, per-pupil expenditures, and school climate. The following four areas typically have state targets attached to them; therefore, are further defined on each of the tabs in this section: Academic Achievement w/Participation Rates, Academic Progress, and Chronic Absenteeism. Click here for a link to NJDOE's School Performance Reports website to view performance reports by year. Each district/school has a summary report, in addition to a full report.

Participation Rate, Academic Achievement, and Academic Progress include measures based on the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics (M) sections of the NJSLA, administered to students in grades three to eight, from the spring of 2025. In addition to NJSLA data, this section of the school performance report also includes other state required assessments that are applicable to the school including DLM, ACCESS for ELLs, and NAEP.
The NJDOE continues to utilize a state participation target rate of 95 percent annually for NJSLA. A school is determined to meet the state’s annual expectations if all identified subgroups within a school either met the state participation rate in 2025 or by utilizing a three-year average. In ETSD, all eight schools met the participation target for the schoolwide population.
The NJDOE also established a state proficiency goal of 80 percent for NJSLA. In addition, annual progress targets were developed for each subgroup within a school based on initial baseline data from this assessment that may be changing in future years. Annual progress targets are designed to increase the percentage of proficient students in all subgroups so that by the 2029-2030 school year all schools across the state will meet the state proficiency goal. A school is determined to meet the state’s annual expectations if it either meets the state proficiency goal or its designated progress target.

Academic Progress, formerly referred to as Student Growth, measures student performance from one year to the next on the NJSLA when compared to students with a similar history of performance on this assessment. A score is then divided into three student growth percentile (SGP) levels: low growth (SGP score less than 35), typical growth (SGP score between 35 and 65), high growth (SGP score higher than 65). The NJDOE established statewide standard is 40-59.9, 60 or higher exceeds the standard.

Chronic Absenteeism (CA) is measured in schools across the state based on each student’s attendance at school. A chronically absent student is defined as a student who was not present for any reason, excused or unexcused absence, for more than ten percent of the school year (or total days possible for that individual student).
