The district currently offers general education, preschool integrated and self-contained special education classes for three and four-year olds. ETSD provides a mixed delivery of preschool classrooms utilizing in-district schools, as well as private providers. All private provider classrooms will follow the same requirements as ETSD and provide a common educational experience in terms of length of school day, calendar year, teacher certification, and curriculum implementation.

Special education preschool programming is primarily held at Rice Elementary. The goal of the inclusion program is to bring together children with special needs with their typically developing peers in a collaborative classroom environment where students experience a variety of early reading and math concepts, language development, fine and gross motor skills, related arts and social skills.

ETSD implements a research-based model curriculum, The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. This program is comprehensive and is fully aligned to the essential early learning standards. It features a rich collection of knowledge-building and daily practice resources. The curriculum offers detailed day-to-day guidance, individualized learning experiences, research-based objectives, and exploration and discovery as a way of learning. It provides for positive interaction, social emotional competencies, constructive play and teacher-family interactions. The daily schedule includes components such as:  morning meeting, small group instruction time, shared reading, writing and math, snack, interest area/center time, quiet/nap time, lunch, outdoor/gross motor time, and the arts. Accommodations and modifications can be made if a student needs them based on I&RS and IEP goals. As this is a full-day program, lunch is eaten in the preschool classrooms at all locations. In order to ensure the safety of all known severe allergies, as well as unknown allergies, in our youngest learners all classrooms are nut-free. This includes any items being sent in from home for lunch, as well as daily snacks. Please be sure healthy alternatives are sent in to comply with this practice.
