Preschool Education Aid (PEA)
The ETSD applied for PEA in mid-August and was awarded the funding in early October. The application required a plan to provide free, full-day preschool to eligible three- and four-year olds for resident children within the next five years.
The year one approved plan allowed all preschool integrated students that began the year at Rice, along with a partnership with two private provider classrooms to transition to full-day preschool as of January 2, 2025.
Year two will expand programs both in-district, as well as increase private partnerships. The lottery for the 2025-2026 school year will take place in early March, with more information on the programs, expansion, and a form to enter the lottery scheduled to be published the first week of February.
