2020-2021 Highlights

ETSD 2020-2021 School Year
Home - Seattle Public Schools The district initiated reopening plans following the released guidance from the state, NJDOE The Road Back in late June. This guidance requires for the return to in-person instruction in some capacity come September. For ETSD, two options were provided for families: participation in a hybrid model, where students alternate on a rotating daily full-day schedule between in-person learning at school and remote learning at home, or a full-time remote-only option for the 2020-2021 school year. Click here to review the ETSD Reopening Plan for September 2020. This plan was presented to the public at the Board of Education Meeting on August 5, 2020 and approved for submission to the state. The state provided written approval of the plan in mid-August. All parents/guardians were provided cohort assignments for the designated learning models based on their selections on August 20th and school began for students on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
Prioritized groups were established to start the school year, wherever possible, including but not limited to: preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, ESL, students with special needs, etc. to allow for daily full-day attendance, with the exception of Remote Learning Wednesdays.

The original plan was updated and readopted by the board on Thursday, March 25th.  Updates included the elimination of all Remote Learning Wednesdays and collapsing of the two cohorts in the hybrid model to allow for daily attendance by ALL students electing to be in-person.  These updates were effective for all elementary schools on Monday, April 12th and both middle schools April 19th.  A remote-only cohort continued to be an option for families.

Celebrating the Arts, Week of 6/7

The smARTteacher Resource: Eyes on ART!

District art teachers started off the week with a special message to students at their respective schools, focusing on the elements of art (and principles of design at middle school).  Choice board art tasks connected to the elements/principles were provided so students have access throughout the week and were encouraged to assist their school in creating an Art Gallery by posting their creation on the school's Padlet. Other tasks and/or messages occurred each day, like Chalk the Walk and Art History Day, all recognizing and celebrating the arts! The week culminated on Friday, June 11th with the unveiling of the annual ETSD Eyes on Art Show, which is a virtual experience again this year. Click here to view the show!

Field Day 2021, Week of 6/1

Field Day Sign Up - New Garden Elementary School

Field Day is an important end-of-year tradition at each of our ETSD schools. While we are not able to return to our traditional event where the whole school joins together on the fields outside, the PE department has been able to modify this year’s event for both in-person and remote students so that EVERYONE can participate in this special tradition on their designated day.

For our remote students, all of the PE teachers across the district worked on creating a video to show one of their favorite field day activities.  Some of the PE staff from Cherokee also added a couple activities.  Please take some time this week to view each school’s favorite activity by clicking on the following link:  ETSD Field Day 2021.  All Field Day events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items.  On the day of your school’s scheduled Field Day, remote students should select a minimum of four activities from the video to participate in.  Remember the goal of the day is health and wellness, along with fun, so feel free to complete as many as you’d like.  The more the better!

In-person students will participate in school on Field Day during designated times with their cohort and grade level in various activities that have been reviewed in live PE classes.  All in-person students are also encouraged to view the video, linked above, to see current and/or former PE teachers across the district, along with some of the Cherokee staff and try out an activity or two at home that evening with families.

Each school would love to have any photos submitted from any events that occur from home as part of Field Day 2021. Enjoy the event and continue to take time each day to incorporate movement and fun!
